Whether you're new to the fighting game community or have been a part of it since Street Fighter's release in 1987, Street Fighter 6 is packed with content and more ways to play for everyone.
After 35 years of development, the Street Fighter series has welcomed fans from all walks of life with different gaming experiences. From arcade mode to online matches, practice mode, local vs. battles and more (everyone is on the battlefield), we're bringing back modes from previous titles, plus two all-new modes called World Tour and Battle. Hub, to Street Fighter 6 to offer an unmatched gaming experience.
Classic streetfighter built for a modern age
Following our February trailer, we hinted at a more hyper-realistic look and feel for Street Fighter 6. We're proud to announce that this new installment in the series will be powered by Capcom's RE Engine, which was previously used to develop Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village. and Devil May Cry 5. With the RE engine, you will notice improved graphics in all aspects of the game. Beads of sweat roll down the skin, muscles tense with use, and cherry blossom petals flutter and twirl in unison with a character's movement. Combine this graphics update with the explosive paint splatters and eye-catching graffiti treatment and you've got a very different art style from Street Fighter 6.
Meet the first characters
And what is Street Fighter without its roster of iconic characters? Street Fighter 6 returns to Ryu, Chun-Li and Luke, all remastered for this new era. They are joined by a completely new face, Jamie, who will bring his own style to the game with his unpredictable moves, based on drunken boxing, including break dancing and a ki-releasing drink.
Luke uses his experience as a contractor for a private military company to teach mixed martial arts. He spends his days off eating junk food, playing video games, and challenging his opponents to a good fight. Despite this, he always has his sights set on victory.
Select moves:
- DDT– A powerful throw that activates after the first hit of a Flash Knuckle Overdrive (OD). Useful when you want guaranteed bonus damage.
- tiro fatal– Fires an additional shockwave after an OD Sand Blast to deal more damage after swapping projectiles.
Jamie is a Chinatown peacemaker who aspires to follow in the footsteps of Yun and Yang, the twin dragons. A skilled dancer, Jamie values justice and friendship above all else, and uses martial arts to defend the town from him.
Select moves:
- With the devil inside– Jamie takes a sip of his Ki Releasing Drink to increase his drink level. Higher levels unlock access to additional moves.
- Luminous Diving Kick (Getränk Level 1+)– Jumping forward, Jamie stretches out his leg and quickly falls to the ground. Useful as a sneak attack or at close range.
Ryu continues to train in his endless search for true strength. Well educated and sincere, he travels the world in search of worthy opponents. Having overcome the Satsui no Hado, he now yearns for something greater.
Select moves:
- Hashogeki– Ryu concentrates ki in his palms and unleashes it a short distance forward. Useful as a follow up after block sequences and combos.
- charge denjin– Ryu engulfs his fists in the power of nothing, enhancing special moves like Hadoken and Hashogeki. Ryu is vulnerable when doing this move, so it's crucial to be careful when timing.
Chun-Li is a former ICPO (International Criminal Police Investigation) agent. He now cares for Li Fen, a victim of the Street Fighter V Darkmoon incident. Now that Shadaloo has fallen, Chun-Li teaches kung fu and has become a popular member of the local community.
Select moves:
- Tensho-Tritte– Chun-Li rises into the air with a flurry of kicks. Useful for countering an opponent's jump attack or finishing combos.
- Serenity-Stream– Chun-Li shifts to a low, stationary fighting stance. In this stance, Chun-Li's normal attack buttons change.
A battle system for creativity
With every new Street Fighter comes mechanics that you can master to rise to the top. Introducing the powertrain, a gauge to handle wisely and brimming with creativity. You can use the Drive meter to perform five different techniques that can easily improve your attack or defense.
A direct hit is a powerful blow that can absorb an opponent's incoming attack and result in a wall slam. Use Drive Parry to parry your opponent's attack and recharge your Drive Gauge. Split a parry attack or a normal attack into an attack run to quickly get close to your opponent. Overdrive Arts are similar to EX Moves from previous games that amplify your Special Moves. Use Drive Reversal to counterattack and get yourself out of trouble. One measurement device, five techniques, unlimited possibilities. Use your creativity to choose which technique to use and when. All is in your hands!
Powertrain Summary
A modern type of control for everyone
For those worried that the fighting game inputs are too complicated and just want to unleash their inner fighter, we have a solution in the form of a new control type option. First of all, Classic Control Type is what veterans can expect with its six button layout for inputs. New to Street Fighter 6 is the modern type of control that allows for simpler inputs where a special move can be performed by combining the special move button with a directional input. This is perfect for newer players or those who may have found the classic command prompts too difficult in the past. With the modern type of control, your character will perform some of their flashiest (and best) attacks at the press of a button. The modern control type is optional, but we highly recommend new players to try it out!
Enter the real-time feedback feature
Finally, we're excited to announce a new feature that will add all the excitement of competitive play without actually being in one. Enter the comment function in real time. We're working with well-known FGC (Fight Game Community) commentators and other familiar faces to bring their voices directly into the game! Enter a match, and as the battle progresses, your voices will narrate what's happening on the screen, just like in a real tournament. Along with the added excitement, this feature also offers easy-to-understand gameplay explanations. This will help any Street Fighter newbie to better understand the mechanics of future battles! The real-time commenting feature also supports subtitles in 13 languages for better accessibility. The first legendary commenters to join this feature are Vicious and Aru! We will announce the rest of the lineup in the future.
A new world to enter
Let's briefly talk about two of the key new modes you also saw in the latest trailer: World Tour and Battle Hub. World Tour is an immersive single player story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows you to leave your own legacy in Street Fighter 6 with your player avatar. And while the Battle Hub, shown briefly at the end of the trailer, may seem like just a place for online matches, it will also bring new and unique ways to engage and communicate. Both modes will require a deeper dive in the future and we can't wait to discuss them in more detail.
